IoT in the automotive industry

IoT plays an important role in the automotive industry and has significantly changed the way vehicles are designed, manufactured and used. IoT enables vehicles to connect to the internet. Comgate offers various IoT data sims for vehicles. We can also provide mobile internet for in vehicles with the 4G/5G hardware Capestone and data SIM cards from Comgate. Read more on this page about what the IoT means for these sectors and how our data SIM cards can help, or request a quote right away.

IoT SIM cards and M2M SIM cards in the automotive sector

IoT SIM cards and M2M SIM cards are widely used in the automotive and transport industry for fleet management, i.e. managing entire fleets. Do you already know what kind of data SIM cards you need? You can put this together yourself via our Choose your sim tool. Not quite sure what you're looking for yet? Take a look at our about pages IoT and M2M SIM cards or contact with one of our experts.

Mobile Broadband SIM cards in the automotive sector

Mobile Broadband SIM cards are mainly used in the automotive sector to create a stable and fast internet connection on the go. And how about narrowcasting in a bus, offering WiFi and connecting a security camera. Check out our propositions or contact with one of our experts.

Rent 4G/5G internet for the automotive sector temporarily

Fast and stable internet can be essential for certain automotive needs. For example, when you rent buses for long journeys: it can be a huge plus to provide passengers with fast and stable internet. With a Temporary Internet package you can also use narrowcasting or stream films for passengers, for example. Our 4G and 5G Temporary Internet packages can be used for this, but we can also help you (possibly in combination with hardware partner Capestone) tailor-made for your specific challenge. Examples of IoT in the automotive industry

Fleet management

Fleet management is the management of fleets. Making cars smart and connecting them to the internet is extremely useful for this. The data collected by various sensors in the vehicle can be analyzed by the on-board computer and forwarded to a central location via the internet. The entire fleet can then be monitored remotely for, among other things, driving behaviour, damage and required maintenance.

More efficient use of fuel

New cars are often equipped with countless IoT sensors that can measure all kinds of data. The vehicles can process this data themselves and use it to use fuel more efficiently. This also applies to electric cars. By connecting a smart car to the internet, new electric cars can often plan routes that pass charging points so that people never have to stop without a battery.

Connected cars

Now that more and more devices are connected to the internet, there are also more and more possibilities to connect devices and have them communicate with each other. Today, cars can communicate with mobile networks to obtain route information, for example. The prognosis is that this phenomenon will grow considerably in the coming years and that cars will eventually also be able to communicate with, for example, smart traffic lights and with other cars.

Predictive Maintenance

The sensors in various parts of cars collect data and process this data, sometimes in combination with a platform. This data is then processed by an algorithm. In this way, predictions can be made about future performance and the need for maintenance. For example, a car can notice that a lot of air is being sucked into the engine and then indicate to the driver that something may be wrong with the throttle body. By using the data from sensors, cars can help prevent breakdowns.

5G All-in One Camper solution

Every year, more than 550.000 households go on holiday in the Netherlands and/or abroad with a caravan or motorhome. These vehicles are now increasingly advanced and optimized into true five-star hotels on wheels. What should of course not be missing here is a fast and stable internet connection. Comgate and Capestone have many years of experience in providing mobile internet for vehicles such as; buses and trucks. We also offer custom solutions for motorhomes so that you are never again dependent on poor WiFi on the campsite and have a secure internet connection everywhere.
