As of March 31, 2022, KPN will stop with 3G network

March 31, 2022 KPN will permanently shut down its 3G network. KPN will switch off the 3G network due to the introduction of 5G and the improvement of the current 4G network.

According to KPN, there are only a limited number of customers that run entirely on 3G. If customers do not switch to 4G or 5G, they will automatically fall back to 2022G from April 2. KPN's 2G network will remain available until at least April 2025.

This is what happens if you fall back to 2G

  • The Internet connection becomes slower;
  • Sound quality of calling decreases;
  • You can no longer use the internet and make calls at the same time.

 

KPN is not the only telecom company to say goodbye to 3G. Vodafone has already phased out the 3G network since 4 February 2020. Only T-Mobile has no concrete plans yet when it comes to phasing out the 3G network.
