APN stands for Access Point Name. It is the name of the (virtual) gateway between a mobile network and another network, usually the Internet. You should see it as a virtual door that connects two (computer) networks. There are two different types of APNs: public APN and private APN. A public APN is an APN that anyone can use. With private APN, mobile devices are securely connected to their own company network.
PrivateAPN
A Private APN gives you more control over how you can secure and configure your IoT SIM cards. Using a Private APN can be a wise choice for your organization for several reasons. A private APN ensures that when a mobile device wants to reach the data network, it can be routed to the corporate network. This allows a mobile device, outside the office, to use data via a secure connection. Only employees within a company have access to the Private APN network.
A private APN can be fully customized to your wishes and requirements, and therefore offers great security benefits.
VPN
A 'Virtual Private Network' (VPN) adds the SIM card to its own private network. This creates the possibility to set up a secure tunnel between the server or PC up to the SIM card. This allows the device to be reached remotely, as if it were within the local network.
